DOLANS upstairs venue was shaking with excitement and music as attendees danced like their lives depended on it last week.
The lineup for the night was local performer Abe Soare, last minute addition of local band Kingfishr and the main man himself; the lovely Lloyd John.
The first act was Abe,sporting a vibrant red jacket, who got the crowd hyped for the night ahead with their new release Oasis and a sing along featuring The End of the Cornetto. They could later be seen in the crowd with other fans, singing away and “on the miwadi for the night”.
Next was local folk band Kingfishr. They began with soon to be released; Heart in the Water. They also played brand new song Highlights for the first time to a crowd on the night, showing how in sync they are as a group as it was such a natural performance.
Once they finished their set, Lloyd appeared and created a meticulous set up for the rest of the gig, bringing his keyboard forward, setting his equipment and disappearing again. His band members take their positions and begin playing with Lloyd rushing the stage diving straight in. He had taken off his glasses and put a leather jacket over his black and white print shirt. He also donned some sparkling drop styled earrings and a pearl necklace, polishing off his whole look.
Lloyd kicked off his set with fan favourite Fight Anymore, even jumping into the crowd with fans and could be seen jamming with Abe. He then went on to play his viral song Alive. Lloyd throws everything he has into his performance and loyal fans who knew his work, including his partner, matched his energy for every number.
Lloyd later slowed down the set for a few songs which allowed him to show off his amazing vocals ,and adoration for his partner, and versatility as he switched from keys to guitar like it was second nature.
However, we quickly were back to moshing with the crowd with more upbeat, rock concert energy with everyone dancing along to Over You.
Once Lloyd left the stage after finishing his set , the traditional chorus of “one more choon” rang out. However, Lloyd had sung all of his works so it was thought he would repeat a number. Instead, he surprised the crowd by belting out Since You’ve Been Gone by Kelly Clarkson.
The venue was buzzing after, Lloyd hugging attendees and random clumps of people singing their favourite chorus’ as they filed out of the venue.
Lloyd’s music can be found on Spotify and be sure to keep an eye on his Instagram and TikTok for updates on his life and music releases.
