FORMER Chairman of Limerick County Council Seán Broderick died at his home on Convent Street, Abbeyfeale yesterday (Monday) at the age of 96.
The popular Fine Gael councillor served as Chairman of the local authority from 1996 to 1997, prior to its amalgamation with the then Limerick City Council in 2014.
Limerick Fine Gael TD and Minister of State Patrick O’Donovan said he was very saddened to hear of the death of his former council colleague Seán Broderick who, he said, was devoted to his family, his community and his faith.
“He was a committed member of Fine Gael all his life and I had the privilege of serving with him when I was co-opted to the Council in 2003 until he retired from politics in 2004,” Minister O’Donovan added.
“He served the community of Abbeyfeale and the wider West Limerick area with great distinction being a man of integrity and service. My sincere sympathy to his family, wide circle of friends and the many people who knew and worked with him”.
Husband of the late Vera, the late Mr Broderick is survived by his daughters Marie, Therese and Siobhán; sister, Ita; sons-in-law Diarmuid and Andy; grandchildren Muireann, Cathal, Róisín, Gearóid and Niamh; sister-in-law Gemma, nephews, niece, relatives, neighbours and a large circle of friends.
His remains will repose at Harnett’s Funeral Home, The Square, Abbeyfeale tomorrow (Wednesday) from 6 to 8pm. Burial in Reilig Íde Naofa, Abbeyfeale, following Requiem Mass in The Church of The Assumption on Thursday at 11am.
