Munster are South Africa bound for April

MUNSTER will have no less than three competitive fixtures in South Africa next April with two games in the URC and a final 16 Champions Cup tie.

Graham Rowntree’s side have been paired away to Cell C Sharks (King’s Park, Durban) in the Champions Cup on the weekend of April 2, while they are also scheduled for URC outings away to DHL Stormers (Cape Town) and Sharks again on April 15 and 22, respectively.

All of this will happen after the Six Nations Championship.

In weekend Cup action, Munster fell to another narrow loss at Toulouse, and Edinburgh posted a mild upset against Saracens, who were favourites to be their next round opponents in North London.

Looking ahead, Rowntree said: “If you’re going to win this competition, you’ve got to go places and win games like this.

“What we are proving is that we’ve got form on the road, so I’m already looking forward to it. It’s a challenge, but we like a challenge at this club.

“We’re going to be seeing a lot of them [the Sharks]. And to me, what makes a class team is what you do on the road.”

He added: “We’re tough to beat – that’s the bedrock of what I want us to be in terms of our DNA. I’m really pleased with how we’re going.”

On Saturday next, Munster are on their travels again, this time to Italy to face Benetton in the URC.

Leinster will be home to Ulster in their next Champions Cup match.
