SEVERAL organisations working in communities across Limerick City will benefit from €3.7 million in funding from the Department of Local Housing, Local Government and Heritage, through the Economic and Social Intervention Fund (ESIF).
Over 180 projects are to receive financial support through this fund, which is a key instrument of the Limerick Regeneration Programme.
The overarching aim of the ESIF is to improve access to opportunities for residents of the Regeneration areas and the surrounding communities, as well as enhancing service provision across the statutory, voluntary and community sectors.
The fund invests in projects that share these aims, whether the projects are overseen by voluntary and community organisations or other public agencies.
Mayor Francis Foley said that having visited all the regeneration communities in recent months, he was impressed by the fund and its impact .
“This funding will make a massive difference to the lives of people in these areas of Limerick City. The allocation comes as a deserving reward for all the hard work being done on the ground by both the communities and Limerick City and County Council”
Kate Clifford, Manager of the West End Youth Centre was also keen to emphasise the positive impact the fund would have on the Weston Community.
“We are delighted to have secured funding through the Economic and Social Intervention Fund which will enable us to enhance the scale and depth of the work we are doing in our community. This funding will enable us to improve life outcomes for children and families in Weston which is fundamental to the ongoing regeneration of the community,” she said.
The ten largest grant recipients from this year’s ESIF were Limerick and Clare Education and Training Board; Bedford Row Family Project; Limerick Island Community Partners; Limerick Youth Service; Our Lady of Lourdes Community Services Group; Extern Ireland; Moyross Community Enterprise Centre; Moyross Development CLG; Sophia Housing Association and St Munchin’s Community Centre.
