LOCAL community-based projects gathered recently to celebrate the success of local projects in AXA’s green space national initiative AXA Parks.
AXA Parks is a €1mn nationwide initiative that seeks to support local community-based projects develop and enhance ‘green spaces’ in their local community.
Green party Cllr Sean Hartigan was also present.
Over 240 projects from both the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland applied last May for AXA PARKS, which saw the programme over subscribed by over 350 per cent.
In total 85 projects were selected spanning all 32 counties. The Limerick area was particularly successful with 6 projects being chosen.
Croom Community Development Association: This project is to increase the Biodiversity of Croom town park.
Kantoher Development Group: This project is aimed at helping people with physical disabilities by developing a green disabled car park at Killeedy Eco Park.
Glenbrohane Tidy Towns: This project aims to create a public area along the river that runs through the village.
Garryowen C.D.P & Residence Association: This project aims to increase the community use of Garryowen Green.
Murroe Wood Park Biodiversity Project: This project aims to develop their nuttery at Murroe Wood Park.
Templeglantine Community development Association: This project aims to develop a sensory park in Templeglantine village.
Branch Manager, Clodagh Ryan said: “AXA Parks is about supporting our local communities and recognising projects and the amazing voluntary work each of them carries out, so that others can enjoy these green spaces that the local community have to offer.”.
