THE young man who lost his life in a road traffic accident in County Limerick yesterday morning has been named as 22-year-old Paddy Hartnett from Knockanevin, Kildorrery.
An electrical engineering graduate of the former Limerick Institute of Technology, he was on his way to work at the Johnson & Johnson plant in Castletroy when the car he was driving collided with a van on the R513 Garryspillane to Ballylanders Road at around 6:15am.
A Garda spokeswoman said that he was pronounced dead at the scene and his body was taken to University Hospital Limerick where a post mortem will take place.
The driver of the van, a man in his late 50s, was taken to Cork University Hospital to be treated for injuries which are believed to be non-life threatening.
Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this collision to come forward. Road users who were travelling in the area at the time who may have camera footage (including dash cam) is asked to make it available to Gardaí.
