
GARDAร in Limerick are warning shoppers and traders of a number of incidents involving the circulation of counterfeit notes in the run up to Christmas shopping season.
According to Garda John Finnerty of the Limerick Crime Prevention Unit, the tendering of counterfeit currency is on the increase and incidents of counterfeit or ‘prop’ money being posted into Ireland are also rising.
In many cases, business owners are detecting people using counterfeit โฌ50 notes to buy small items,โ he explained.
Garda Finnerty reminded those dealing with cash over the Christmas period of the โFeel, Look, Tilt, Checkโ technique, emphasising that businesses in across the city and county be vigilant in checking notes under a UV light.
