AN up-and-coming Limerick fashion designer is on the crest of a wave after scooping up the Fashion Designer of the Year title at the Hi Style awards in Cork.
Ber McNamara from Pallaskenry believes that slow fashion is the way to go and the voting public agreed with her.
“I was just delighted. I’m still celebrating,” Ber, who is self-taught in ladies fashion design, told the Limerick Post.
“I always wanted to work in fashion. Even when I was a little girl, whatever I wore, I always wanted to change something, a sleeve or a pocket,” said Ber.
Knowing what she wanted to wear from an early age gave Ber the push to learn design online. She went to work with a number of designers before branching out on her own.
She now makes bespoke designs for all kinds of occasions, including weddings, christenings and communions.
“I just love making women comfortable and happy in the clothes they wear,” said Ber.
Clients ring her and then visit to discuss their needs and Ber draws up some design ideas before making up the garment to the woman’s individual taste and fit.
She also has an online shop where customers can buy ready-made pieces which she designs and makes up at her studio in her Pallaskenry home.
