LIMERICK City and County Council have been asked to change the dividers on the cycle lane from the Roxboro Roundabout to Kilmallock Roundabout from permanent concrete dividers to those that will allow cars to pull in to let ambulances pass.

Speaking at last week’s Metropolitan District meeting, Fianna Fáil councillor Catherine Slattery said that she had been contacted by local paramedics about this matter.

“Lives are being saved in the back of an ambulance and every second counts,”  she declared.

She was told that the segregated two-way cycle lane on Childers Road is an interim measure and not a permanent fixture.

“The cycle lane is continually being monitored by the Active Travel Team and ongoing consultation is continuing with the HSE Ambulance Service,” a council official explained.
