Limerick council talking out of both sides of its mouth over pollution

ENVIRONMENT Minister Eamon Ryan should be held accountable for the pollution caused by inadequate wastewater systems.

The issue was raised by Fine Gael councillor Adam Teskey at the October meeting of the Adare-Rathkeale Municipal District when he accused Limerick City and County Council of talking out “both sides of their mouth” about building social housing when no proper sewage systems were in place.

During a presentation from The Maigue Rivers Trust, councillors were informed that pollution levels in the River Deel were much higher than normal.

“The Government and local authorities haven’t played their part in remedying this situation. We need to be very mindful that we are huge contributors to the pollution ourselves.

“We are killing our wildlife and standing idly by,” Cllr Teskey claimed.
