LIMERICK City and County Council has been challenged to make its buildings as energy efficient as possible.
The issue was raised by Green Party councillor Seán Hartigan during last Monday’s Metropolitan District meeting when he suggested that the local authority should investigate the possibility of applying for European funding to finance the work.
“We are currently spending close to half a million euro a year on energy for our buildings. Both County and City Hall are in need of complete energy upgrades.
“Maybe we can access funds from the European Investment Fund for a total overhaul of outbuildings, save money, reduce carbon emissions and provide a showcase for others to see how it’s done,” Cllr Hartigan said.
