ALMOST 55 per cent of cars failed their first test at the Limerick National Car Test (NCT) centre in 2020.
That’s according to figures released this week by the Central Statistics Office (CSO) showing that 22,493 out of 41,388 vehicles tested at the NCT centre at the Eastway Business Park on the Tipperary Road did not pass on the first attempt .
These figures leave Limerick vehicles trailing third nationally behind Dublin (Deansgrange, Northpoint, and Fonthill), and Cork (Little Island).
While the majority of the first attempts at the test ended in failure, cars in Limerick were far more likely to pass on subsequent attempts, with 83 per cent passing after their initial test.
Nationally, first-time failure figures show a similar trend with 56 per cent of vehicles hitting a red light on their initial assessment.
