LIMERICK City and County Council has been asked to reverse its decision to sell the Toll Cottages at Verdant Place and to use the site for social housing instead.
The issue was raised at last week’s meeting of the Economic Development Strategic Policy Committee (SPC) by Voluntary Public Participation Network (PPN) representative Brian Thompson.
He said that such a prime city centre site, beside Thomond Bridge, would be ideal for housing development and this would be his preference considering the scarcity of land for social housing in the city.
The cottages were acquired last year by the council through Compulsory Purchase Order (CPO) after being placed on the derelict sites register.
Director of Economic Development Vincent Murray explained that the cottages had gone out for Expressions of Interest and the site could still be used for social housing.
