MUSIC legend Tom Jones went head-to-head in an unlikely clash with rapper Will-i-am last weekend over a Limerick women with a golden voice.

Both judges on The Voice UK gave 25-year-old Niamh Nolan from Kilcolman in West Limerick the thumbs up for her rendition of ‘Shallow’ from Oscar-winning feature ‘A Star Is Born’ on Saturday night’s show.

The elder statesman of British music pressed his button in the first minute of Niamh’s performance, while the Black Eyed Peas star held out almost to the end.

But it was Will-i-am’s team that Niamh opted to join.

Niamh has been performing since she was a child singing into her hairbrush but her big break came last year after she concentrated on finding her voice during lockdown and gained a huge following for her singing on the social platform Tik-Tok.

She told the Limerick Leader newspaper that she got an Instagram message and “really thought it was a scam because that app can be really quite strange”.

“I had a message from someone who said they work on the Voice and they thought I’d have a really good shot at getting an audition so it went from there,” she said.
