LIMERICK Fine Gael councillor Sarah Kiely has welcomed a proposed safety scheme for Childers Road, which will be advertised in the coming weeks.
As part of the proposed works, segregation will be installed at the railway gates at Rathbane for pedestrians to make the crossing safer.
“A cycle lane will be installed from the Roxboro Roundabout to Ballinacurra at Greenpark Centre. This will narrow the road and slow traffic. It will connect existing cycle lanes,” Cllr Kiely explained.
The City East representative has made a suggestion for a no right turn out of O’Donoghue Avenue in Janesboro be part of the scheme as many accidents have occurred there.
“There is a proposed pedestrian crossing at Queen of Peace School on O’Donoghue Avenue — again open to change.
“The separation to be used will be similar to that on the Childers Road, however, it will be lower and apparently can be driven over in an emergency.”
Cllr Kiely welcomed the scheme and pointed out that once it is advertised, it will remain open for four weeks for input from all stakeholders.
