LIMERICK people will get an insight into the abilities and interests of children with disabilities when the ‘Beyond Limits’ event will be held at the University of Limerick Sports Arena on Saturday, October 15.
A festival-style event, ‘Beyond Limits’ gives young people the opportunity to hear from children of all abilities and from adults who have faced similar challenges to them.
Children who come to ‘Beyond Limits’ will also have the chance to try out lots of activities – rugby, soccer, GAA, yoga, music, drama, table tennis, cookery demonstrations, arts, crafts and gaming.
Ombudsman for Children Dr Niall Muldoon, who will be participating in the event, said that ‘Beyond Limits’ is all about empowering and inspiring children and young people with disabilities.
“It also shows how an inclusive and accessible event like this is not only possible, but can offer so much fun and possibility for all involved.
“Children with disabilities are not included or featured enough in society in general. ‘Beyond Limits’ is about hearing their voices and showcasing their personalities,” Dr Muldoon added.
Compered by Paralympian and ‘Dancing with the Stars’ competitor Ellen Keane, speakers and performers include Limerick podcaster Padraig O’Callaghan; disability advocate Jack Kavanagh; Psychotherapist Colman Noctor; actor Mark Smith; rappers The Kabin Crew and the Bluestack Foundation Choir.
