A GRIEVING family have welcomed the news that there is to be a second inquest into the death of their father, who died in University Hospital Limerick twelve years ago.
Michael Daly (Snr) died on April 7, 2010, aged 65. According to a coroner’s inquest, he died of natural causes.
His family was told at the time that the Garryowen native died as a result of complications with a pre-existing heart condition.
The family were unhappy with that verdict and have been campaigning ever since to have the matter re-opened.
At one point, when an independent report was commissioned and given to hospital consultants before the family had been given access to it, the Dalys took to protesting at the gates of the hospital.
Michael Daly Jnr told the Limerick Post that ever since the incident, he and his family have been pursuing the matter and, following new information coming to light, it has been agreed that a second inquest into the death of his father will be held in early December.
“My dad died in hospital in 2010 and since then I have got his medical records. New information has emerged and I went to the coroner who has agreed to hold a new inquest.”
“We are happy that this is now going ahead and we want to see the real information coming to light,” he added.
The inquest is due to begin in Limerick on December 5 and is expected to last up to five days.
