LIMERICK City and County Council Metropolitan District Cathaoirleach Olivia O’Sullivan has defended traffic wardens who regularly get abused on the job by irate motorists.
“Traffic wardens are only doing their job – hurling abuse is not acceptable. These are ordinary people making a living for themselves and their families, they should not have to tolerate abuse at work.
“People may not like receiving a parking ticket, but traffic wardens are carrying out the law of the land and should be respected for that.
“We need people in these jobs as they play a crucial role in our city. At the end of the day, they are only doing their job,” Cllr O’Sullivan commented.
Limerick City and County Council said it takes any incidents of abuse seriously and asked motorists to be temperate and respectful of what they view as a very important role in safe management of street space.
