IT WAS an exciting weekend in the Limerick District League, with some of the roster’s strongest sides meeting in some extremely one-sided clashes.
FAIRVIEW Rangers 5-0 Regional United
Fairview Rangers put on a dominant display at home to Regional, hitting the visitors for five.
The victory sends Fairview three points clear at the top of the table as Pike Rovers game was cancelled due to a damaged upright at Carew Park.
The hosts started brightly through a long-range effort from Darragh Rainsford and continued their momentum for the duration of the game.
Regional failed to respond and minutes later, Conor Ellis added to the away sides woes.
The visitor’s fate was not to change in the second half, as Fairview moved through the gears and continued to punish their rivals.
Ellis found the back of the net two more times, to crown his hattrick before Ben O’Shaughnessy fired home to seal a dominant display.
Coonagh United 1-1 Mungret Regional
Coonagh United hosted Mungret Regional in a bottom of the table clash, with both sides looking to secure their first points of the campaign.
The game ended in a deadlock after Ger Myles equalized for Coonagh United, following a Cian McNicholas strike that put the visitors ahead.
For both teams, the wait continues to secure their first win of the season. Next up for Mungret is a visit to highflyers, Pike Rovers. Meanwhile, Coonagh United will face Regional United at home.
Ballynanty Rovers 2-1 Aisling Annacotty
Ballynanty Rovers secured a shock victory, toppling title favourites Annacotty in a fiercely contested battle in LIT.
The first half was cagey, with no scores before the interval. Balla started the brighter of the two teams in the second half, with Thomas Byrnes putting his side ahead.
Gbadebo Habideen added a second to give the home team a cushion before Shane Clarke’s long-range effort saw his side back into the game, but it was only to be a consolation. Balla held firm to see out the victory.
Nenagh AFC 5-0 Janesboro
Nenagh secured their second win in a row as they breezed past visitors Janesboro.
Matt O’Gorman put on a scintillating display scoring three goals to claim the points for his side. Matthew Spain and Alan Sheehan were also on target for the hosts.
