LIMERICK City and County Council has unveiled plans for a five-storey apartment building near the People’s Park in the city.
The site at Speaker’s Corner on Lower Carey’s Road will consist of 36 apartments made up of 11 one-bed and 25 two-bed apartments.
Fine Gael councillor Sarah Kiely believes that the Speaker’s Corner project should be a great project and a lovely place to live.
“There is so much on the doorstep of this development, public transport, post office and the beautiful People’s Park,” she told the Limerick Post.
“I did note that no parking will be provided to the prospective residents and a discussion took place on the briefing regarding this. It was pointed out that there are ample public spaces outside, however, no parking permits for residents will be issued from the Council.
“Hopefully, the Guinness site will be developed soon too with my preference being a mix of affordable and social housing for that site.”
Cllr Kiely now wants to see building started as soon as possible.
“I know all councillors from across the city and county want to see houses built. The department need to get the finger out and release funding to bring homes back into use and develop new estates in the Metropolitan District to encourage compact growth. This will in turn help our city centre and its traders,” she added.
The plans and particulars of the proposed development are now available for inspection up to and including September 16 during public opening hours at Council offices at Merchant’s Quay and Dooradoyle.
Submissions in relation to the proposed development can be made in writing to: the Planning and Environmental Services Department, Limerick City and County Council Offices, Dooradoyle Road, Limerick, V94 WV78; by email to [email protected] and online at https://mypoint.limerick.ie on or before 4pm on September 30.
