SINN Féin Senator Paul Gavan has hit out at a government decision to centralise Community Welfare Services across Limerick.
Until this summer, Community Welfare Officers from the Department of Social Protection held clinics once a week in local health centres across key locations in Limerick such as Castleconnell, Ballynanty, and Rosbrien.
However, these essential services have now been centralised to INTREO centres and local branch offices in the city and county.
“Without warning these services offering urgent payment supports have now been centralised to Limerick city centre. This is a major inconvenience for residents across Limerick who were used to seeing a local Community Welfare Officer in a local health centre such as the one in Castleconnell,” Senator Gavan said.
