PLANS for a major residential development in Limerick City have been approved by An Bord Pleanála through the fast-track Strategic Housing Development initiative.
The planning appeals board granted permission to the Clonmacken Partnership to build 165 new homes around 1.6 kilometres from the city centre.
The development will comprise 43 houses, 42 duplexes and 80 apartments on a 4.5 hectare greenfield site to the west of Condell Road.
Two third party submissions were submitted to An Bord Pleanála raising questions about the impact of the development on flood plains for the Shannon Estuary.
Planning was granted subject to the developers removing 48 car parking spaces and a bat conservation plan will also be required.
The Clonmacken Partnership was also requested to engage the services of a qualified arborist to ensure that trees on the site are protected during the period of construction.
