Limerick’s Gearoid Hegarty, who collected his fourth Munster title last Sunday has been nominated for May’s PwC/GPA Hurler of the Month award for his performances against Tipperary and Clare in the Munster championship.
The St Patrick’s clubman was a key cog in both games as Limerick sealed their place in a fourth consecutive Munster final, which they won over the weekend at the Banner’s expense.
He is nominated for the award alongside Clare’s Shane O’Donnell and Cork’s Conor Lehane.

who is your May PwC Hegarty will be hoping to follow in the footsteps of Diarmaid Byrnes, who was crowned as April’s hurler of the month.
The 2020 Hurler of the Year only registered a point in the win over Tipperary but his handprints were all over everything good Limerick did in securing the 3-21 to 0-23 win in the TUS Gaelic Grounds.
He fired over three exquisite point in Cusack Park the following week before he controversially sent off in the draw with Clare.
Hegarty was last crowned Hurler of the Month back in December 2020 after scoring seven points from play in Limerick’s All-Ireland final win over Waterford.
He faces stiff competition for this month’s gong with O’Donnell key in helping Clare back a first Munster final since 2018 including 0-5 against Waterford in the final round. Lehane himself shot over ten points from play to go with three frees in their crucial wins over Waterford and Tipp that ensured their progress to the knockout stages.
Hegarty and Limerick won’t be in action again until the All-Ireland semi-final on 3 July.
