Car thieves targeting keys in Limerick homes

LIMERICK Gardaí are advising people to keep their car keys out of sight in their homes after a man in Dooradoyle woke from his sleep to see his car being driven away.

“He woke suddenly to a loud noise. When he ran down the stairs, he could see that the window in the sitting room had been smashed and his car keys were taken from a table,” Limerick Crime Prevention Officer Sgt Ber Leetch explained.

“The man believes the criminals reached in through the smashed window and took the keys. Gardaí are aware that some criminals go on the lookout for a car they fancy and then look in through the windows of the house to see if the keys are in reach.

“If the keys are visible, they have no problem breaking in to get the keys and steal the car,” Sgt Leetch said.
