CERVICAL smear test whistleblower Vicky Phelan paid a special visit this week to a Limerick charity in the company of a friend to hand over money raised by family and friends in her native village of Mooncoin, County Kilkenny
Posting a picture in her Instagram account, Vicky explained that she was at the Children’s Grief Centre in Limerick “with one of my oldest friends from home, Laura, to hand over a cheque for €5,300 raised by Laura and her sisters and my Dad and Mam and my sister.”
The group raised the cash as part of the ‘Climb with Charlie’ event on Croagh Patrick last month. Vicky had intended to join veteran broadcaster, Charlie Bird, who was making the climb for charity having been diagnosed with Motor Neuron Disease, but was undergoing treatment for her cervical cancer and was too ill on the day.
Vicky told her Instagram followers that they met with founder Sr Helen Culhane, chief fundraiser Carol and psychotherapist Teresa, “who gave up their precious time today explaining what this money would mean to the charity, who rely on fundraising and donations to offer their services to children and young people in Limerick, Clare and Tipperary.”
The Limerick centre offers support for children and teens bereaved through death, separation or divorce.
