LIMERICK writer Eoin Devereux published a limited-edition Poetry Broadsheet featuring work by amongst others Denise Chaila, Donal Ryan, Willzee, Emily Cullen and John Liddy.
The broadsheet includes a poem by the internationally acclaimed novelist Donal Ryan and a spoken word piece – ‘Isn’t Dinner Nice?’ by renowned Hip Hop artist Denise Chaila. The other contributors are: Kieran Beville, Imelda Maguire, Kerry O’Brien, Martin Dyar, Jo Slade and Eoin Devereux.
A professor by day, Devereux has published extensively on contemporary music, and teaches on the MA in Creative Writing at UL. He stated: “I have always been taken with the democratic nature of the broadsheet format. For this project, I decided to bring together poetry and spoken word by poets, novelists and spoken word artists I really admire. My hope is that the poster is displayed as you would a poster for a band or singer and that the poems bring people solace in their day to day lives. ”
The Poetry Broadsheet titled April Is The Cruellest Month is published by Revival Press. Costing just five euros, all proceeds from the sale of the broadsheet will go to the Limerick Writers’ Centre.
Its managing editor Dominic Taylor stated:
“Poetry has always played an important part of the Limerick Writers’ Centre programme of events. The Limerick Broadsheet April is the Cruellest Month is a new departure in publishing for us but it is also somewhat of a revival of the Broadsheet format, which was last published in Limerick by the poet Hayden Murphy from 1967 to 1978. We, at Limerick Writers’ Centre, believe real cultural activity needs to come from the ‘clay and soil’ of our communities and I’m delighted that today we have forged a new link with UL and its literary communities.”
