Treaty and Cobh share the points at the Markets Field

TREATY United and Cobh Ramblers shared the spoils at the Markets Field on Friday night with a 2-2 draw in the Airtricity League First Division.

Marc Ludden had given Treaty an early lead in the first half through the penalty spot but an own goal by Joe Gorman brought the visitors level. Brendan Frahill gave Cobh the lead before Ludden converted a second penalty to ensure the game ended in a draw.

Treaty raced out of the blocks as they went in search of a first win in six games as Conor Melody took on his marker on the left and crossed for Dean George who diverted his shot wide of the post. Right winger Matt Keane delivered a cross for Lee Devitt who headed over as the home side continued with the fast start.

Moments later, Treaty United were awarded a penalty when Lee Devitt’s shot was blocked by a Cobh hand in the box and Ludden coolly slotted the penalty into the net to give the home side the lead.

The lead was short lived however as Cobh managed to equalise in bizarre circumstances when as a long ball over the top looked to be in the control of Joe Gorman but as the centre back tried to pass the ball back to Jack Brady, he got too much purchase on the ball and it went over Brady’s head and into the net.

In the second period, Darren Murphy’s side took the lead when Treaty failed to clear a free-kick and Brendan Frahill powerfully headed past Brady to the delight of the visitors.

However, much like Treaty, Cobh could not hold onto the lead as they failed to deal with Ludden’s hopeful ball forward and as Harlain Mbayo held off the challenge of Joe Collins, Sean Barron appeared to take the Treaty midfielder down in the penalty area and Ludden once again made no mistake from the spot.

The visitors almost re-took the lead when good build up play involving Danny O’Connell and Luje Desmond resulted in the latter smashing a shot off the crossbar.

Cobh were reduced to ten men when Daragh O’Sullivan O’Connell brought Matt Keane down on the edge of the area as the Kerry native bore down on goal. Treaty had chances to win the game with Barron producing good saves to deny Ludden from a free-kick and Joe Gorman’s shot but the home side were forced to settle for their third home draw in a row.

Treaty now remain in 5th place and are three points ahead of Wexford with a game in hand. Tommy Barrett’s side travel to the RSC for a Munster derby against Waterford FC next Friday night.
