BIKE Week returns to Limerick this Saturday, May 14, with a host of events to celebrate and promote the benefits of cycling.
Events include a family bike ride along the Limerick Greenway and a cycling tour at Lough Gur, as well as free bike repair clinics across the city and county until Sunday, May 22.
This year will see Limerick City and County Council and Limerick Sports Partnership organise a week of events in workplaces, schools and communities, all designed to celebrate the joy of taking to two (or more) wheels.
The week’s activities will culminate on Sunday, May 22, with a family cycle in the heart of Limerick City, beginning at Arthur’s Quay at 2pm when hundreds of cyclists, young and old, take to the streets of the city.
Mayor Daniel Butler said Bike Week is a great opportunity to remind everyone of the benefits of cycling.
“I hope that it inspires more children in Limerick to cycle to school in the future, and more adults to consider taking to two wheels for those shorter journeys,” he added.
The programme of events includes a dawn cycle with the Limerick Ladies Cycling Club; the Limerick Greenway Family Cycle and a family fun day at Oola GAA Grounds on Saturday, May 14. There will be a cycling tour of Lough Gur on Thursday, May 19 while free bike repair clinics will be held around the city and county throughout the week.
