CERVICAL Check whistleblower Vicky Phelan enjoyed a bank-holiday break in West Clare and has posted new pictures of herself, looking happy and with new hair growth.
The mother-of-two was diagnosed with terminal cancer after getting initial false results on a cervical smear test. She successfully sued the HSE and the laboratory that checked the sample.
She refused to sign a gagging order, leading to the exposure of many more faulty cervical smear tests.
Earlier this week, she posted on her Instagram account that she was “Having a lovely bank holiday weekend down in West Clare at our holiday home visiting our favourite beach, Doughmore”.
However, she added that she has found it “hard at times, because I can’t walk the beach”.
“My back is just not cooperating, but I know I am in a better place than six weeks ago when I was confined to a chair. It just gets me at times that I can no longer walk my favourite beach, and that I need help tying my shoes and other stupid little things that get to me,” Ms Phelan revealed.
Just last month Vicky had to drop plans to join veteran broadcaster, Charlie Bird on his climb of Croagh Patrick as she felt too unwell.
Ms Phelan has been undergoing treatment for her cervical cancer, including a trial programme for which she spent a long period in the USA.
