WITH a specialist team assigned to investigate the ongoing overcrowding crisis at University Hospital Limerick (UHL), clarity is needed over when the team will be deployed and what specific issues they will be investigating.
That’s the view of Limerick Fine Gael Senator Maria Byrne who said that since her re-election to the Seanad last year, she had made continuous calls about the need for an independent inquiry into the situation at UHL.
“The overcrowding crisis has continued despite the Government funding that has been allocated to try and alleviate the pressures in the hospital.
“The people of the Mid-West are increasingly concerned as to why the hospital is always jammed packed and the staff continuously run off their feet.
“I have raised my concerns previously with Health Minister Stephen Donnelly and highlighted that the people of Limerick, and the Mid-West, along with the patients and staff deserve a lot better.
“We urgently need a timeframe as to when this review will take place and what the precise objectives of the investigation will be,” she added.
