THE Limerick Ladies Footballers will compete for a first piece of silverware in four years this Sunday in the League Final.
Limerick are set to take on Offaly in the Division 4 Ladies Football League final this Sunday in Birr. Limerick were the early pace setters in the Division and have won each of their four games thus far.
Graham Shine’s side came through a titanic battle with Fermanagh in the semi-final as they prepare for a first decider since the 2018 All-Ireland Junior Final.
Offaly will be looking to get back the loss they suffered at the hands of the Limerick in the group stages as they made it past Leitrim and into the decider.
The Leinster side will have home advantage this Sunday in Birr with a throw in time of 2pm.
Ahead of the final Shine was in excellent form and seemed ready for the upcoming clash as both sides seek promotion to the third tier,
“The last two weeks have been fantastic to be honest there is a great buzz in the camp. They are a good bunch and they really gel together and a winning culture really bonds a group. They are really excited for Sunday to be honest and so training has been brilliant over the last two weeks. We cant expect anything more of them only just to bring the goods on Sunday.
“At the start of the year if you said we would get into a final and we would win our four games to get there sure you would be delighted.
“As I said there and I keep saying in Interviews to the media they are training really hard and they are probably getting back what they are putting into it. As I say training is going well and they are flying ready for Sunday.”
As mentioned, Limerick and Offaly will meet for the second time this year with the Shannonsiders taking the first meeting in February.
On that day, the same that the men’s footballers played Louth, who they meet in this Saturday’s Division 3 final, there was a gale force breeze that was very unpredictable with Limerick grabbing goals at the crucial times.
As such, Shine isn’t reading too much into that game as they face off again,
“That day we played Offaly there was a hurricane blowing up in Martinstown so I wouldn’t read into that result too much. It was great to get the win and all that, but Offaly will be a different team the next day.
“On dry ground they have three or four players back into the squad and the starting fifteen. Our girls are well aware that the game is in the past now and we have to focus on Sunday.
“It’s a different game it’s a final and there’s nerves and different scenario’s. It’s just to focus in on that and that game is in the past.”
