GARDAÍ seized €700,000 of suspected heroin and arrested a man following a search operation on the Clare/Limerick border earlier today.
Searches were conducted on lands in the Ardnacrusha area by the Limerick Divisional Drugs Unit assisted by local Garda units, the Regional Dog Unit and members of the Defence Forces.
In the course of the searches, a quantity of what is believed to be heroin with an estimated value of €700,000 was recovered.
A man in his 60s was arrested as part of the investigation and is currently detained under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drugs Trafficking) Act at Henry Street Garda Station where he can be held for up to seven days.
This seizure forms part of Operation Tara which was launched by last July to disrupt, dismantle and prosecute drug trafficking networks, at all levels.
The drugs are being forwarded to the Forensic Science Ireland laboratories for analysis.
Investigations are ongoing.
