AFTER only seven months in the role, Aer Arann founder and former Senator Pádraig Ó Céidigh has resigned as Chairman of Shannon Group.
In his letter of resignation to Transport Minister Eamon Ryan, Mr Ó Céidigh said that other work commitments were the reason for his decision to resign.
He subsequently told Clare FM that he believes it would be “more than a full-time job to do the role to the degree and detail required, given the circumstances, to get the airport to reach its potential”.
Mr Ó Céidigh was appointed Chairman of the Shannon Group, which incorporates Shannon Airport and Shannon Commercial Properties last September.
At the time he stated that his main aim was to restore pre-pandemic traffic and passenger numbers at Shannon by 2024.
Agri-food businessman Aaron Forde, who was appointed to the position in February 2021, had his appointment cancelled by Transport Minister Eamon Ryan when it emerged that he had tweeted disparaging comments about members of the Government and had also used ethnic slurs about members of the Traveller community.
Mr Forde had been appointed to succeed Limerick-based lawyer and business woman Rose Hynes whose term in office ended in August 2020.
