LIMERICK Sinn Féin senator Paul Gavan will address the Council of Europe this week on Russia’s invasion of Ukraine when he will ask members to advocate for a warm welcome to all Ukrainian refugees.
”We need an urgent response in terms of strong sanctions in relation to what Russia has done”, he added.
“We need a really strong response in terms of the humanitarian issues involved and we need to make sure there’s a warm welcome for Ukrainian refugees right across Europe”.
The Council of Europe have called the emergency meeting as a result of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, with civilian casualties rising every day.
The Council is the European Union’s leading human rights organization and this week’s meeting will also focus on possible ways towards a negotiated peace.
