THE actress won the Spirit award for best supporting actress, for her performance as Clare Bellew in ‘Passing’.
She won the award during the 2022 Film Independent Spirit Awards on Sunday, 06 March. Negga was unable to attend the awards in-person but gave a video acceptance speech following her win.
“Thank you very much. My cheeks hurt because I can’t stop smiling. I would just like to share this with the entire cast and crew of Passing. I’m just so proud to have been part of such a beautiful, beautiful film.” Negga said.

The actress wrapped up her speech by showing her support for Ukraine following Russia’s invasion of the country. “I’m glad to express my solidarity with the peoples of Ukraine at this time,” she said.
Negga beat out Jessie Buckley (The Lost Daughter), Amy Forsyth (The Novice), Revika Reustle (Pleasure) and Suzanna Son (Red Rocket), for the top prize.
