THE national IKF tournament was held in the Limerick Combat Gym Sunday 20 February, with 400 people in attendance and many clubs taking part from Limerick, Tipperary, Cavan, Clare and more.
More than 70 fights took place at the tournament, with fights ranging from juniors from 6 years old, to seniors in the 40+ bracket. More than 140 fighters took part in the tournament, with 32 representing the Limerick club.
The Limerick club came out on top of the tournament, walking away with the most medals, beating out 12 clubs for the top prizes and taking home 32 medals. The fight of the day was Sean Barry, Limerick, against Alex Hannigan, Claremorris, which ended in a stalemate.
Of course none of this could have been possible if not for Darragh McGarry, Linda O’Donnell, Mary Honan, Hazel Barry, Kathleen Lawlor and Hazel Kirwin who were a massive help on the day and aided in its success for Limerick combat gym.
Coaches Gillian O’Connor, Kieran Honan, Sarah O’Shea, Daniel MicInerney and head coach Tony O’Donnell also deserve some recognition for their work. They have volunteered their time over the last 10 years to the kids of the community at the Limerick club.
Congratulations to the winners and all who took part.
