THE Limerick side will be in last four action this weekend after Monday’s win.
Ardscoil Rís have reached the semi-finals of the Dr Croke Cup after they beat Presentation College Athenry 1-18 to 1-12 in Dangan last night.
The Limerick side trailed by a solitary point at the half but six unanswered scores down the stretch saw them seal a place in the last four where they will meet Good Counsel Wexford.
After leading the original game 0-13 to 0-11 when it was abandoned due to injury last weekend, Ardscoil once more started strong with David Kennedy hitting the net for the Limerick school.
But the Galway side responded with a goal of their own as they maintained a lead for the majority of the half.
At the half, Athenry led by 1-9 to 1-8. But Ardscoil were level shortly after the restart and oncre more at 1-12 apiece.
But the Galway outfit wouldn’t score again as Ardscoil found the final six scores to seal passage to the last four.
They face Leinster Champions Good Counsel of New Ross this Saturday as they seek a fourth final appearance in a competition they have yet to win.
St Joseph’s Tulla, who beat Ardscoil in the Harty Cup final, take on perennial contenders St Kieran’s College Kilkenny who defeated Ardscoil Rís in the Croke Cup final in 2010, 2011 and 2016.
Of the four remaining team, the Kilkenny side are the only ones to have previously won the competition, with St Joseph’s appearing in the semi-finals for the first time as Good Counsel look to reach a third final.
