LOUTH left it late to fight back and stun Limerick leaving UL with two vital points in Sunday’s Allianz Football League Division Three clash.
Limerick hosted Louth for the sides first meeting in seven years on Sunday in UL as the vistors took the points on offer with a late rally.
Louth took the lead early through a Liam Jackson goal after just two minutes. The home side chipped away at this lead and heading into half time the Shannonsiders led by a point.
Limerick started as they meant to go on in the second half increasing their advantage to five points. However, seven unanswered points from Louth before the full time whistle left the Treaty side wondering where they went wrong as they fell to a 1-12 to 1-14 loss.
Reflecting on the late collapse against Louth, Limerick manager Billy Lee made no excuses.
“The last ten or fifteen minutes is when the game hinged and we left them in the chance to kick seven unanswered points but that’s really where the damage was done.
“I think when we finished the first half the last fifteen minutes were really strong and we played in them fifteen minutes the way we had intended to play, I didn’t think we played well in the first twenty minutes of the game.
“Ten minutes to go we just seemed to lose complete momentum for whatever reason.”
It was the finer margins on the day that proved to be the difference in the game. Yet, Lee understands that it can all depend on the day that’s in it and backs his team fully.
“I wasn’t overly comfortable in the first fifteen minutes that we were doing what we had worked on to do, I think we done well the last fifteen minutes and maybe the first twenty minutes of the second half.
“We were in a really good position creating chances and we didn’t manage to see it out but look that’s the novelty of the game.”
” We just have to keep working, keep going to the well and keep putting points on the board.”

Limerick now travel to Wicklow this Sunday in the fourth round as they seek to get back to winning ways.
