Unity Credit Union sponsor U16 Shannon girls on Portugal tour

-

UNITY Credit Union has announced that it is to sponsor the U16 Girls Shannon RFC team’s first tour in Portugal later this year. Unity Credit Union said it is important “now more than ever” to support local clubs and businesses, and has embarked on the sponsorship as part of its community outreach and social engagement in the Limerick City area.
Speaking about the sponsorship, team member Hannah Hehir said: “I am delighted to be going on tour with my teammates. I can’t wait for the experience of touring and playing rugby in Portugal. The sponsorship by Unity Credit Union makes this possible to bring 28 girls on tour. It is great to know a business is backing us.”
Previously the team qualified for the North Munster League Final in 2019/20, which was played in Independent Park for the first time. They also qualified for the semi-final of the North Munster League Cup in 2020 but due to Covid the season was cancelled.
Rita Hehir, Coach of Shannon RFC U16 Girls said: “The sponsorship from Unity Credit Union helps girls’ rugby to grow in our community. It gives players an experience that adds to their determination to be involved in sport, increases participation and to follow their dreams to play for Shannon RFC, their province and country. This is the first youth girls’ tour and it is made possible by this sponsorship. This tour makes our players visible and to dream big.”
Unity Credit Union says its members in the Limerick city area and its wider community are what make this credit union the success story it is today, reinforcing one of its main objectives, which is to support local.
