New album of the late Des O’Dwyer’s music to be released this week

The album cover features a portrait of Des by Mick O’Dea.

DES O’Dwyer is fondly remembered by family, friends, fans and fellow musicians in Limerick. He played in many bands including Toucandance and The O’Malley’s. In later years he began composing and recording his own material in his home studio, before sadly passing in October, 2010, before any of his music was released.
This will be the second album of material compiled by his great friend and bandmate, Eamonn Hehir. He takes up the story,
“In January 2011, a few months after Des’s passing, I compiled the album ‘Home James’ from original songs Des had recorded in his home studio. Many will fondly remember the launch in Dolan’s Warehouse.
“The album itself is regarded by many as among the best to come out of Limerick. In the intervening years I gathered more of his recordings and this Friday February 18, from 6 to 7.30, there will be a listening session launch of a second album, ‘Through It All’ in Dolan’s Rooftop Terrace.
No live music performance, just the CD playing and an ideal opportunity to catch up with friends we may not have seen for a while due to the pandemic.”
‘Through It All’ has nine original tracks, released for the first time and a version of ‘Teenage Kicks’ (The Undertones).
The album cover features a portrait of Des by celebrated painter, Mick O’Dea. There are limited copies of ‘Through It All’ available for sale. Copies of ‘Home James’ will also be available this Friday February 18 from 6pm.
