Theft on train sparked medical emergency

THE theft of a handbag on a train to Limerick sparked a medical emergency as it contained the owner’s medication.

A 20-year-old woman was travelling to Limerick from Cork last week and fell asleep during the journey. She woke when the train stopped at Mallow and discovered that her bag had been stolen.

The young woman has a medical condition that requires medication to be taken at regular intervals during the day.

Limerick Garda Crime Prevention Officer Sgt Ber Leetch said that the woman was frightened but contacted her mother and her medication was waiting for her when she came to Limerick.

“Criminals do not care whom they steal from or what the consequences to the injured party are. Do not make it easy for them,” Sgt Leetch advised.
