A look at the results from all the sport last weekend including the GAA, Soccer, Rugby, NFL and NBA
There was an entertaining weekend of sport with inter-county football returning, AFCON reaching the final rounds and Rafael Nadal winning the Australian open.
The NFL semis were played lining up the Super Bowl match up as the NBA continued continued to gather momentum as the business end approaches.
Gaelic Football:
Limerick started off the league as they mean to go on with victory over Longford. Three first half goals proved crucial in the end as they ran out 4-9 to 1-11 winners.
In Division One, Armagh upset Dublin in Croke Park after a dazzling display. Strangely all the other games ended as draw with Kildare, Mayo and Tyrone drawing in their respective encounters with to Kerry, Donegal and Monaghan.
Derry beat Down in Division Two while Galway and Clare picked up impressive wins over Meath and Offaly respectively. The final score in Dr. Hyde park ended Roscommon 1-13 to 0-10 as they saw off Cork.
Elsewhere in Division Three Antrim beat Fermanagh, Westmeath defeated Wicklow and Laois overcame Louth to join Limerick at the summit of the table.
London and Carlow had an epic encounter as the visitors beat the men in red, yellow and green by a point. Cavan and Sligo beat Leitrim and Wexford respectively. Tipperary and Waterford played out a draw in Division Four‘s other game.
Hurling
Dublin breezed by Wexford in an impressive Walsh Cup Final win. The home side trashed their opponents by 16 points in the end with this title being the first of the Mattie Kenny era.
Rugby
Munster continued their recent impressive run of form with a bonus point win in Italy. Zebre were no match for the visitors as Munster broke them apart piece by piece. The final score was 34-17 in Munster’s favour.
Connacht and Leinster both lost this weekend, suffering at the hands of Glasgow and Cardiff respectively. Ulster won emphatically at home against Scarletts.
The Dragons and Sharks both dew with Treviso and Stromers respectively.
Ospreys and Bulls were the only other winners at the weekend beating Edinburgh and the Lions.
Tennis
Rafa Nadal overcame second seed Daniil Medvedev in the Australian Open Final. The match was without a doubt the best of the tournament lasting over five hours and going to five sets. After falling two sets down Nadal won the next three sealing the deal playing some of the best tennis of his life and securing a record breaking 21st Grand Slam.
Nick Kyrgios and his partner Thanasi Kokkinakis overcame fellow Australians to win the mens doubles.
NBA
The Phoenix Suns beat the San Antonio Spurs for their tenth straight win.
The Chicago Bulls and Philadelphia 76ers closed the gap on the Miami Heat at the top of the Eastern Conference as they both won, against the Portland Trailblazers and the Sacremento Kings. The Heat lost to 8th placed Toronto Raptors.
No slip up from the top three in the Western Conference as the table stays the same as the Suns, the Golden State Warriors and Memphis Grizzlies vying for the top seed.
NFL
The Cincinatti Bengals beat the Chiefs in dramatic fashion winning 27-24 in overtime to book their ticket to the Superbowl.
The Bengals will play the LA Rams as they overcame the San Francisco 49ers coming back from being ten points down.
The Super Bowl is set to be one for the history books and will take place at 11:30 (Irish time) on Sunday the 13th of February.
Soccer
The semi-finals are set in AFCON as dramatic quarter final action took-place this weekend.
Egypt came back from 1-0 down to win the game 2-1 in extra time with a Mo Salah equalizer and a Trezeguet 100th minute winner.
Senegal beat Equatorial Guinea 3-1, Cameroon beat Gambia 2-1 and finally, Burkina Faso beat Tunisia 1-0.
Senegal will face Burkina Faso on Wednesday and Egypt will face Cameroon on Thursday.
