TUS overcome TUD to keep Fitzgibbon Cup hopes alive

THE Limerick college keep their hopes alive with a big win.

TUS Midwest held off the challenge of TU Dublin in the second round of the Fitzgibbon Cup to preserve their hopes of progressing into the knockout stages.

Billy Seymour top scored for the hosts as they secured a 0-24 to 0-16 win in the Moylish.

Despite leading from pillar to post, it wasn’t until the final quarter that the Limerick side really pulled away from their opponents.

During that period they hit seven of the final scores to bring the fate of the group to the final day.

If UL beat TU Dublin in the capital next week, then TUS will advance to the last eight alongside the Castletroy college.

TUS, who were beaten well by UL in the opening round, started the better with Seymour, Evan Fitzpatrick, Kian O’Kelly and Shane Taylor all on target.

That was enough for a four point lead at the water.

Seymour continued to keep the scoreboard ticking for the hosts who saw their advantage trimmed to three by the interval, 0-13 to 0-10 in their favour.

That lead was back to four for the final Waterbreak with Robin Mounsey getting in on the act with a couple.

And from here, TUS pulled away to maintain their quarter final hopes.
