EXPERIENCED League of Ireland footballer Ian Turner has retired from Airtricity League football at the age of 32.
The Cork native played for four clubs including Cork City, Limerick FC and St. Patrick’s Athletic. Turner most recently spent three seasons with Cobh Ramblers in the First Division before deciding to retire following a 13 year career.
He began his career with hometown club Cork City in 2009 and was an important member of Tommy Dunne’s squad as the Leesiders returned to the Premier Division in 2010. He made 96 appearances in his first stint.
Turner fell out of favour with Cork under new manager John Caufield and was loaned to Limerick FC in 2014 under the management of Martin Russell. Turner signed permanently for the Shannonsiders in 2015 in what would prove to be a season of two halves for the winger.

Limerick FC went 21 games without a victory in the Premier Division before a run of 7 wins in 12 games allowed them to escape the dreaded automatic relegation place before eventually losing out to Finn Harps in the Promotion/Relegation play-off.
The performances of attacking trio Turner, Dean Clarke and Vinny Faherty was instrumental for Limerick and Turner was presented with the SSE Airtricity League Player of the Month for October 2015 by fellow Cork man Roy Keane.
His upturn in form earned the winger a move back to Cork City for the 2016 season but it was a brief reunion as Turner returned to Limerick FC ahead of their return to the Premier Division in 2017. However, the winger’s second stint was unsuccessful as he made just 9 appearances before departing and subsequently signing for Saint Patrick’s Athletic.
He finished his career with Cobh Ramblers where he captained the side on a few occasions and ended with 246 Airtricity League appearances and 26 goals.
