AUSTIN Stacks powered into the Munster Club SFC final with a 1-15 to 0-8 win over Newcastle West in Tralee yesterday.
A powerful first half laid the foundations for a dominant win for the Tralee outfit.
Newcastle started brightly with Cian Sheehan winning the throw and launching an early attack.
But Stacks were first off the board with Sean Quilter kicking a lovely free. Darragh O’Brien added a second moments later from a placed ball.
Brendan O’Sullivan kicked their first from play after nine with O’Brien pushing out the lead with his first from play.
At the water break, Stacks were comfortable at 0-5 to 0-0.
Newcastle West had their first shot after 21 minutes but Iain Corbett kicked wide under little pressure.
Eoin Hurley got Newcastle off the mark in the 22nd minute after Shane Stack was fouled.
But Stacks response was dominant as they kicked the final four scores of the half as O’Brien and Donaghy grabbed a pair each.
That left it at 0-9 to 0-1 at the half.
O’Brien started the second with a double before Newcastle West hit a purple patch.
Eoin Hurley kicked his second free with Mike McMahon getting on the scoresheet with a mark.
Diarmuid Kelly then had his first before Iain Corbett had NCW’s fourth ina row.
Greg Horan stopped the resistance with Brendan O’Sullivan then finding the net to reestablish the ten point lead.
Another score from O’Sullivan had Stacks 1-13 to 0-5 clear at the final waterbreak.
Cian Sheehan got on the scoresheet with the first of the final quarter.
Stacks substitute Shane O’Callaghan hit back before Hurley had his third free of the day.
Sean Quilter kicked Stacks final score with Diarmuid Kelly getting the final point of the day.
