LIMERICK start-up company Huggnote has been shortlisted as a finalist in two categories at this year’s National Digital Awards.

Out of 400 nominations, the music messenger company is one of five finalists selected for ‘Digital Impact of the Year’ with its founder and chief executive Jacqui Meskell shortlisted for ‘Digital Trailblazer of the Year’.

Founded by Jacqui and her sister Perry, Huggnote has just announced its limited-edition Christmas package, featuring several Christmas themes and lots of much-loved Christmas songs to choose from.

“Christmas is an exceptionally busy time for us at Huggnote and so hearing the news that we were chosen as one of the final five nationally, is a great boost,” Jacqui told the Limerick Post.

“For Huggnote to be recognised especially for its impact on users and society at large is wonderful. We created Huggnote precisely to make it easy for people to be there for those they love – so we’re all about making a positive impact.

“And then to be shortlisted as ‘Digital Trailblazer of the Year’ is a genuine honour. We always hope that we can inspire others to follow their dreams – even if it’s daunting.

“So, it’s wonderful to be considered someone that is blazing a trail for others to follow,” she added.

“Music is emotion and a powerful re-kindler of memories – capable of releasing the same hormones as a physical hug. And so knowing that our app is helping people to emotionally connect with loved ones especially over the holiday season at the end of a very difficult year is so gratifying” said co-founder Perry.

Huggnote is one of Ireland’s fastest growing apps with hundreds of thousands of users in 205 countries and the enterprising Meskell sisters are expecting a huge surge in users over the Christmas period.
