IT has just been announced that all schools, Universities, colleges and further education facilities in Limerick have been advised to close tomorrow (Dec 7th) due to Storm Barra.
“Due to the significant nature of Storm Barra, as forecast by Met Éireann, the Department is advising that all schools covered by the Red Alert and Orange warning from Met Éireann should not open tomorrow, 7 December.” a statement read.
Limerick is currently at a Status orange weather warning with Storm Barra expected to reach land around 6am with winds up to 60km/h, gusts up to 110km/h and high tides.

A red wind warning is in place for neighbouring Clare, Cork and Kerry.

“Due to the significant nature of #StormBarra, the Department of Education is advising that ALL schools covered by the Red Alert and Orange Warning should NOT open tomorrow. Schools should keep up to date with the current weather warnings.” Minister Josepha Madigan tweeted.

The public are being told to prepare for disruptions to power supply and travel restrictions in some areas.
