Monagea land Limerick Ladies Senior Football title after overcoming Ballylanders in thrilling final

MONAGEA earned a second crown in four years after beating the South side in the TUS Gaelic Grounds today.

The girls from the West were crowned champions once more after outlasting Ballylanders 1-9 to 1-6 in the TUS Gaelic Grounds earlier today.

A goal from Karen O’Leary proved crucial for Monagea who picked up a first title since 2018 after losing successive deciders.

Kirsty Carroll opened the scoring for Ballylanders but soon Monagea found the lead with Player of the Match Deborah Murphy bagging the first of her three points and Ella Whelan giving them the lead.

Carroll levelled proceedings but Catriona Davis ensured that Monagea had the lead at the first water break.

Ballylanders again had the response, Carroll again but Whelan ensured Monagea had the lead at the half.

Carroll once more had it all square but points from Davis and Murphy gave Monagea their first three point lead of the day.

Murphy pushed them three clear but the lead was wiped out when Laoise Browne found the back of the net for Landers.

But Monagea’s response was immediate as they went the length of the field before Karen O’Leary netted to pull them 1-7 to 1-4 ahead at the final water break.

Ballylanders responded with a score but Davies made it three again.

The South side made it a two point game but Monagea substitute Aisling Corbett found a crucial score to extend the lead to three.

That was the final score of the afternoon as Monagea regained their title after a three year wait.
