Cut cul de sac speed limit to 50km in Newcastle West, says councillor

Fine Gael councillor Liam Galvin asked for a financial report on the scheme, demanding details on funding spent to date, funding available, shortfall of funding.

FINE Gael councillor Liam Galvin wants the Newcastle West Municipal District of Limerick City and County Council to reduce speed limits on all cul de sac roads to 50km/h. He told this month’s district meeting that he thinks 80 to 100km/h is totally inappropriate. “As this request is a change of Council policy with regard to cul de sacs, it should be referred to the Travel and Transportation Strategic Policy Committee for consideration. The speed limit policy on cul de sacs should be similar for all districts within the County and in accordance with national policy,” he was told by the Council Executive.
