MINISTER for Education Norma Foley has confirmed that she has given approval for the proposed new 1,000-pupil Mungret Community College building to proceed to tender.
Limerick Fianna Fáil TD Willie O’Dea commented: “I very much welcome this announcement by Minister Foley, which is a very exciting development for Mungret Community College, which has made huge progress under Principal Liam O’Mahoney in the short few years since the schools’ foundation.”
Last year, Limerick and Clare Education and Training Board applied to Limerick City and County Council for planning permission on a 10-acre site at Dromdarrig, Mungret for the construction of the new three-storey school.
The new building will include teaching spaces, social spaces, a multi-purpose hall, and a special education needs unit with two SEN classrooms.
Along with the development of a site entrance, the new proposed development will include a set down area, car parking for 90 spaces, a covered bicycle stand, six ballcourts and a playing field.
